Buying a website is always a costly business and sometimes quite horrifying when you see what the costs can run to. When working out our own costs we did a lot of research to find out the current going rates, and we were shocked.

For a simple 1 to 5 page no frills design, the costs (based on companies that will actually tell you what they charge up front and don't expect you to fill in a form for a "free, no obligation quote") range between £250 to £600.

For additional pages above your 1 to 5 you are looking at anything between £50 to £100.

Hosting is trickier because you very much "get what you pay for" when it comes to hosts. Larger companies often offer free hosting because they own their own servers and can pack them to the gills with clients, they easily make their costs back with inflated design costs and large support charges. There are totally free hosts out there, but, they are slow because they're full and they rarely allow you to use your own domain (www.myname.com) name. Many also place adverts on your free site. Costs for a decent host which place no limits on the size of your website, how much bandwidth it uses and how many email address you have can vary between £120 to £250 a year.

So what do we charge?

Personal design with up to 5 pages (We'll even work with any colour and layout preferences you may have): £200

Additional Pages: £20/page

Integrated Open Source gallery (installation, mysql database and donation): £50

Integrated Open Source Content Management System (CMS) - Basic (installation and donation): £50

Domain name: Variable - approx £3/year for a .co.uk address

Unlimited hosting/email with free support: £100/year

Any additonal updates and changes after your site is up and running: £25/hour

We can offer a photography service so that we can add your own personal photos to your site, but this depends on your location and requirements.

Other graphic needs outside of the site design can be arranged based on your needs.

More complex Open Source Content Management Systems (CMS) are available but require a lot more work to set up and integrate, if you require something like this, we will discuss your needs and work out what would suit you best.
